The “disappearance” of a Cristiano Ronaldo jersey that was offered to the Canadian Madeira Club of Toronto is at the center of a controversy that divides current and former leaders.
The jersey that had been used by CR7 in an official game of Portugal was donated by the CR7 Museum but the current leaders of the association do not know where it is and accuse the previous leaders of having hidden it.
“Until December 2017 no member of the organization had knowledge of any piece sent by the CR7 Museum,” said José Rodrigues, Councillor of the Madeiran Communities in Canada.

This situation, is making most of the Madeiran community in Canada “revolted and outraged.”
In 2017, a director of the Casa da Madeira in Toronto, when visiting the museum, was informed of the sending of official boots of Cristiano Ronaldo and a jersey, equipment used in an official game of the Portuguese national team.
In 2018, the association had elections and leadership was changed, in May began soliciting information on the “whereabouts of the material,” explained the counselor.

In 2018, the association had elections and leadership was changed, in May began soliciting information on the “whereabouts of the material,” explained the counselor.

“According to the information sent to me, the donation was sent at the beginning of 2016. It’s been three years and the Jersey is still missing,” said José Rodrigues.
However, the former president handed Cristiano Ronaldo’s official soccer boots to the Canadian madeira Club on July 18, 2018, but the jersey is still missing.
“We will continue to look for the jersey, although expectations are few.

The arguments that have presented to us are reprehensible and unacceptable and it was all work of irresponsibility, a disrespect for what they received, “he said.

According to information obtained by the museum, the Jersey was requested and sent in 2016, and the boots in 2017, and that was to be “merged with the Jersey that was allegedly exposed in the hall of the Canadian Madeira Club,” something that never happened.

On April 7, at a general meeting, the members of Casa da Madeira learned about the whole episode and decided to remove “six members including the previous president”, who are “forbidden to enter the premises of the organization”, confirmed the president of the General Assembly, Salomé Gonçalves.

The former president of the association in Toronto, Rick Coelho, targeted by criticism, confirmed that “the jersey was switched by mistake” following a raffle draw.

“We had two Cristiano Ronaldo shirts, each one, inside an envelope. The Real Madrid jersey should have been awarded in the raffles, and unintentionally we gave the winner in the draw the jersey in question (used in an official game by CR7), “he said.

The former leader also regretted the whole situation by promising to be working to “recover this lost jersey”.
